Hanganga Reo Matatini is the explicit teaching of literacy in Te Reo Māori which is based on the science of reading (how the brain learns to read). The scope and sequence was developed by Mahina Selby-Law (Mahi by Mahi) who also created resources to teach tamariki through explicit and sequential learning.

 

It teaches all tamariki to learn to pānui, and tuhi building knowledge of Arokā ki te Weteoro (phonological & phonemic awareness), oro to pū (letter to sound) correspondences, kūoro (syllables), kupu (words), kupu mahara (heart words), rerenga kōrero (sentences) and pānui pukapuka (decodable texts).
