Structured Literacy
Hanganga Reo Matatini

An evidence-based approach developed by Mahina Selby-Law for teaching literacy in te reo Māori. It focuses on explicit, sequential learning of key skills like phonological awareness, letter-sound correspondences, syllables, words, and decodable texts.

Orton Gillingham Math

Pānui me te tuhi utilises the Orton-Gillingham (OG) Approach to Math, a structured, multisensory, and sequential method traditionally used for literacy instruction, now applied to mathematics. The OG Math approach emphasises understanding over rote memorisation, encouraging students to actively think through math processes while engaging multiple senses. Through hands-on experiences with concrete materials, students build a deep conceptual understanding of math, progressing from concrete to abstract thinking. Explore further to see how this method is tailored to individual learning needs, helping students develop confidence and independence in math by leveraging their strengths to address their weaknesses.
